Some people were asking about SoftPaws. I work at a vet, and apply these things every day, to all kinds of cats. Here is my take: Description: A set of rubber nail covers which are glued to the nail, after trimming, with a super-glue-like substance. They are used to keep the kitty from scratching things that may be damaged by unaltered nails. They are really, really easy to apply if kitty cooperates, and will let you trim her nails easily. They take about 5-8 minutes to apply, once you get the hang of it. They are relatively inexpensive (about £10-12/set, if applied at the vet, and they last 1-3 months.) They are even less expensive if you buy your own kit and apply them at home. They do not interfere with normal claw usage, but protect things you do not want scratched, fairly effectively. Some cats do very, very well with them. Overall impression: I think trimming nails often (every 1-2 weeks) is a better, more wholistic solution to scratching problems, than SoftPaws. If you are unable to do this, SoftPaws may be a solution for you. Overall, it is a very good product but really more suited for cats with limited out door access. Hi we recently got a new leather sofa and was devastated to find holes and slices in it one morning when I came down stairs....... We have 2 cats "kits" 1... 16 months and the other 8 months which we have watched grow from Tiny kittens. They have never really bothered with our furniture before so i was a bit shocked and turned to the internet for advice and came across your site and purchased a pack off blue soft claws which my son choose. We were really surprised when they came the next day... although unsure for the first few minutes our kits have took really well to them and we are really pleased, hopefully no more holes or slices caused by nails:) Both our cats do go outside so i was expecting to replace or have to put new claws on so far i haven't i am amazed and would recommend these to anyone!! As a mother off a 3 year old i have the added comfort there will be no more accidental scratches caused by kittens playing with my son!!! The biggest thanks!!!!!! Mrs Carne. My cat, Pilchard, likes to wake me up by scratching my face resulting in me getting up, looking in the mirror to find numerous holes in my face and lots of blood!! Since fitting the SoftClaws he has been unable to do this and I get a lie in!! hi, i bought a set of your soft claws for my cat tilly after she refused to
use a scratch post and ruined my carpets by continually scratching. she let
us put them on her without too much hassle and got used to them very
quickly and she now looks lovely with her new pink nails !her boyfriend cat
harley even thinks she is really cool with them on ! after mentioning them
to several of our friends who work in vets, they are really impressed with
them even though they had never heard of them and they now are interested
in selling them in their vets surgeries , so if you have any enquires from
vets in coventry it is because i mentioned soft claws to them .when we took
tilly to the vets today even our vet thought they were a fantastic idea .
With many thanks from a grateful cat owner in coventry. Our cats never took to scratching posts, and we tried several deterrent products without success.
As a result, our furniture and carpet always paid the price. When we purchased new furniture over a year ago, I decided to give Soft Claws a try. My cats can now scratch away at anything without devaluing our home and furniture! We also now have a 1-year-old son who loves chasing the cats, and the Soft Claws have saved him from being scratched numerous times. We are so happy to have found a product that is best for both parties: our cats can follow their natural scratching instincts while we maintain the condition of our home and the health of our son! I was amazed at how cooperative my cats are when I apply Soft Claws. They were not hard to put on and once they had been on a few minutes, my cats do not seem to mind. I noticed they still wanted to scratch, but now they do not damage my furniture! And, when I hold them, they no longer accidentally scratch me. I’m extremely pleased with this solution because I feel declawing is not a humane alternative. Recently, we moved into a new home. Along with the house came new furniture and carpeting.
Our three cats have a habit of investigating anything in the house that's new and using their claws to make it their own. Since we use SoftClaws, it wasn't a problem. The cats still scratched at the couches, chairs, and carpet but there was no damage.
We have found the product easy to apply. The cats seem to actually enjoy the attention they get while we do the application. My wife and I enjoy the fact that we don't have to constantly be vigilant for scratching behavior in order to protect our investment. I think declawing is cruel - I cant believe they do it an America!
That didnt stop me from wanting to put them up for adoption when my cats scratched up my furniture. I've been using these covers for about 4 months now and think they are great. My cats are very cooperative when I put them on and don't notice them after they've been on for 10 minutes. My cats and I are very happy. I recommend these for all cat owners. Order these and you and your cat will soon be at peace with each other. Soft Claws are extremely easy to apply and the cats appear not to be bothered by the plastic tips at all. From the moment they were applied they did not try and bite them or scratch with them.
They have been wearing them for over 15 weeks! Araina has lost 3 and Oscar still has all 10!
The cat tray liner is no longer shredded and so the cat tray is much easier to clean.
The cats still scratch on the scratching post, stair carpet and sofas but no longer do any damage. (All sofas have already been snagged by the cats and some patches of carpet are worn.)
My arms are no longer scratched by the cats kneading me when they are stroked.
Though both the cats are good with children there is now no danger of accidental scratches when playing.
All in all I've been delighted with the product and would highly recommend it to the indoor cat owner. |
